Osteopathy in waterdown, Ontario
“I believe overall health is achieved only once you acknowledge and address the needs of the whole body. This is also the principle behind osteopathic manual therapy — the whole body must function together for optimal health.” Mark Boutillier, Osteopathic Manual Practitioner
I was drawn to osteopathy from my lifelong interest in how the body moves and how to enable it to perform at an optimal level. This began at a young age being a part of many team sports, in which, as I grew older, injuries became more common and I was regularly seeking how to improve my performance while avoiding serious injury. Now as a new dad, it’s my goal to promote safe play for children and parents while avoiding injury.
My passion for athletics led me to a career as a certified personal trainer, where I was able to further explore and develop the many training techniques available to improve personal performance. With over 10 years of experience as a personal trainer, I adopted a holistic approach to not only my training but also my recovery, as I further recognized how interconnected the various parts of the body really are.
While also experiencing chronic health concerns of my own during this time, I came to strongly believe in the body's natural ability to heal itself as well as the importance of therapeutic exercises and functional movement in order to improve and optimize health, well-being, and physical performance. This led me to the pursuit of osteopathy. The holistic and integrative approach, which are central tenets of osteopathy, strongly aligned with my values.
By using treatment techniques such as joint mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, craniosacral therapy, and visceral manipulation, osteopathic treatment can help musculoskeletal problems, such as chronic low back or neck pain; joint pain including temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunctions; headaches and migraines; digestive disorders; and many other chronic health conditions. By working in a more hands-on capacity, osteopathy allows me to hone in on the root cause of my clients’ health issues. As a manual osteopath, I truly enjoy helping clients remove the restrictions that have affected their quality of life, thus allowing them to return to a state of equilibrium, optimal performance, and once again living pain-free.
